TVS Classic Sports Network is Celebrating 50 Years As a Network

Did you know that the TVS Classic Sports Network began in 1973? Back then the channel was fed to cable systems nationally on 3/4" video tape. It wasn't until three years later, in 1975, that the channel presented the first live, national commercial cablecast - a WHA Ice Hockey game between the Birmingham Bulls and the Edmonton Oilers. At that point, the programming came from TVS, Mizlou, MHS, Hughes (SNI) and other then occasional broadcast networks. The channel was on the first regular satellite transimission in 1980 (RCA Satcom), one of twelve channels. It sold it's channel space to Warner Cable for Nickleodeon, and returned to the satellite in 1983. Eventually, it became one of the first full time chnnels on AVOD and soon thereafter a 24/7 streaming FAST channel.
