TVS Classic Sports Network is Celebrating 50 Years As a Network

Did you know that the TVS Classic Sports Network began in 1973? Back then the channel was fed to cable systems nationally on 3/4" video tape. It wasn't until three years later, in 1975, that the channel presented the first live, national commercial cablecast - a WHA Ice Hockey game between the Birmingham Bulls and the Edmonton Oilers. At that point, the programming came from TVS, Mizlou, MHS, Hughes (SNI) and other then occasional broadcast networks. The channel was on the first regular satellite transimission in 1980 (RCA Satcom), one of twelve channels. It sold it's channel space to Warner Cable for Nickleodeon, and returned to the satellite in 1983. Eventually, it became one of the first full time chnnels on AVOD and soon thereafter a 24/7 streaming FAST channel. TVS Tavern TV Network is a Hidden Bar Favorite Channel For 30 Years

 In 1994, when the TVS Television Network first acquired the Tavern TV Network, we did not have an area tavern that was offering the channel to its patrons. We were excited to see the channel 'in action' and called a local tavern and offered to take a full table all night if they would put just one of their TVs on Tavern TV so we could watch it. They agreed.

When we got there, the tavern had 15 of their 16 monitors on Sunday Night Baseball, and one on Tavern TV Network. What happened next was amazing.... one by one, customers saw what we were watching (Alcindor vs. Hayes basketball, Rocky Graziano boxing, Bo Jackson in the Senior Bowl, Richard Petty winning his 200th race) and asked the management to switch their TVs as well. In a matter of an hour or so, 12 TVs were watching Tavern TV and 4 were watching Sunday Night Baseball.

Thirty years later, we're still making sports fans happy!

TVS Tavern TV Network Brings Back the Bulldog Brower Mighty Igor Frud IWA Wrestling Feud on WatchYour.TV

 In 1976, the TVS Television Network founded the IWA Wrestling organization in order to create the first national treatment of pro wrestling via syndicated television. At the time, wrestling organizations like WWWF, AWA, and Hollywood Wrestling were strictly regional companies.  

IWA/TVS then gathered the top wrestlers, such as Ernie Ladd, Mil Mascaras, Cowboy Bob Ellis, The Somoans, Gino Brito and Dino Bravo, and others to create a TV spectacular.

Part of the story line was the feud between Bulldog Brower and The Mighty Igor, which highlighted several weeks of the show. 

Today, that feud is relived on the TVS Tavern TV Network, which carries both the Classic IWA Wrestling and the new version, IWA Lucha Loco.

TVS Tavern TV Network Brings Back the Beginning of Bowling on Broadcast TV

 When broadcast TV began in 1948, the networks rushed to showcase boxing, wrestling, and roller derby, but for some reason did not televise bowling. This was corrected in 1954 when Chicago car dealer Peter DeMet created and sponsored Championship Bowling in Chicago. Soon he enlisted Chicago Ad Man Walter Schwimmer to syndicate the show to other markets and soon the show was seen coast to coast. It was so popular, that Schwimmer created a second series from the show, which he called All Star Bowling, so it could appear on two different stations in the same market.

Eventually, Schwimmer engaged AMF as a signature sponsor, which caused Brunswick to create the Top Star Bowling show from St. Louis. When the networks finally got into the bowling business, i was with the show Make That Spare.

The success of Championship Bowling led sports agent Eddie Elias to gather the bowlers who appeared on the show to form the PBA.. Part and parcel with this was the inclusion of ABC TV Network in the mix. The PBA / ABC marriage built the PBA into a major league and lasted for decades.
